When the Trio becomes a Quartet
Within 6 years, Jean-Paul Estiévenart Trio became one of the essential projectsof the Belgian jazz scene. With two albums to their credit, the trio trumpet/double bass/drums has a strong identity and a unique sound, easy to spot. Jean-Paul delivers dynamic and powerful music for which he draws inspiration from the moods and hazards of his life.
After some concerts with Fabian Fiorini as guest musician, it became evident to Jean-Paul that herein lies the next step in his personal project. The trio naturally transformed into a quartet: the 4 musicians all share the same lightning energy. no power struggles within this new formation, but rather an explosion or continuous fireworks, with unbridled performers, virtuosity and overflowing musicality.
The showcase concert at the Belgian Jazz Meeting will give you the opportunity to discover some songs from the latest album Behind The Darkness (Igloo Records, 2016), but also new compositions that will appear on their next album.
In nearly 15 years of career, Jean-Paul Estiévenart has had the opportunity to perform with personalities such as Enrico Pieranuzzi, Nathalie Loriers, Avishai Cohen (trumpet), Logan Richardson, Dré Pallemaerts, Joe Lovano, The Brussels Jazz Orchestra, and Perico Sambeat. He is now the most demanded trumpet player in Belgium.
The other members of the trio, however, are equally impressive. Antoine Pierre is a very talented young drummer in full bloom (Philip Catherine, Taxi Wars, Urbex, NextApe, Véronika Harcsa quartet, …). The bass player, Sam Gerstmans, is a professor at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels who shared the stage with the greatest Belgian talents (Steve Houben, Jacques Pirotton, Ivan Paduart, Felix Simtaine, Michel Herr, Bert Joris, Greg Houben, Pascal Mohy and Quentin Liegeois). And now also Fabian Fiorini, whose eclectic career sends him both to the stages at clubs as well as imposing theaters and whose leitmotiv is the constant search for new auditory perspectives.
The fiery interactions between these four great musicians electrify the audience at each of their concerts.
