Cinema Paradiso are Kurt Van Herck (saxophones), Willem Heylen (guitar) and Eric Thielemans (drums). Old friends Van Herck and Thielemans meet again, having walked many different paths since their student days exploring the music of Paul Motian in their hometown of Antwerp. Van Herck mainly as a much sought after educator and one of the star soloists of the world well-known Brussels Jazz Orchestra. Thielemans mostly as a force behind many different cutting edge collaborations and projects. Joined by upcoming talent Willem Heylen, they now revive Motians songs, mixing them with standards, free improvisations, and compositions of their own. For Van Herck this is a return to the intimacy and creative interplay of the small band format he explored earlier in his career. The band name and the presence of the beautiful title melody are nothing but historical coincidence. The trio is open to guests, such as Jozef Dumoulin on their first two albums. Available for clubs, concert venues and atypical spaces throughout 2020/2021.
